About MariaElena
MariaElena Cuervo-Lorens was born and raised in Mexico City. She has been living in Canada for more than 30 years where she shares her love of cooking and of her native Mexico through her culinary classes and instruction of the spanish language.
In 2000, MariaElena was invited by the Consulate General of Mexico for a presentation of her books to members of the community, as well as to culinary professionals of the area. The Mexico Tourism Board of Vancouver invited her in 2007, to show case in the television show "City Cooks", the traditional Mexican celebratory dishes for the Day of the Dead.
As a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), MariaElena participated in classes and workshops with celebrities such as Julia Childs and Jacques Pepin among others. Her recipes have been included in "Cocina de la Familia" (Simon and Schuster), recipient of the prestigious Julia Child Award.
MariaElena has a successful schedule of cooking shows and television interviews. She can frequently be found sharing her culinary talents in kitchen studios, and at book signings in local bookstores throughout Canada. MariaElena now resides in Victoria, British Columbia.
